Schoolhouse Times

The Schoolhouse Times is a newspaper project for home educated young people supported by Schoolhouse Home Education Association.

The first edition was produced for the TES Newspaper Competition in March 1998, and the small team involved was delighted to receive a commended certificate for their efforts. There was considerable enthusiasm for continuing the project, and a follow- up edition was completed in time for Schoolhouse's national home education conference in June 1998. The team also entered the 1999 TES competition and this time won a highly commended certificate, which was presented at the Palace of Westminster.

Schoolhouse secured funding from the National Lottery Charities Board in 1999 to establish and further develop this popular project. Home-educated young people are invited to send in contributions for inclusion in the newspaper.

The Schoolhouse Times aims to give a voice to the growing number of young people who are educated by other means than school. We want to encourage as much participation in the project as possible, so everyone no matter what their age (we have received and used material by 18 month-old-babies to older teenagers) is invited to contribute something.
